BSA Merit Badge Lock-ins:
Here at Climb Kalamazoo, we have one of the regions most comprehensive Rock Climbing Merit Badge programs. During a single night lock-in, all eligible scouts can complete their badge while having fun with their whole troop.
PROGRAM SUMMARY:
- Reservation deposit required- $350.00
- Price per participant- $35.00
- Minimum number of scout participants – 10
- Minimum age for merit badge- 13 years old (Youth under age 13 may attend the lock-in, but will not meet all requirements for the merit badge.) Those merit badge participants under age 14 will not be allowed to belay in the facility during our normal business hours.
- There is no charge for Troop Leaders, whether they are participating in the event as belayers or not. However, the maximum number of free participating Troop Leaders is three for every ten scouts.
PROGRAM ITINERARY:
- Program time- 8:00 PM Friday to 8:00 AM Saturday or
- 7:00 PM Saturday to 7:00 AM Sunday
- Friday arrivals-8:00 PM SHARP check in and introduction of staff (NOTE: please do not arrive any earlier than 7:45 p.m. as our day shift staff will be on dinner break and the building will be locked.)
- Saturday arrivals-7:00 PM SHARP- check in and introduction of staff (NOTE: please do not arrive any earlier than 6:45 p.m. as our day shift staff will be on dinner break and the building will be locked.)
- Post check-in will include all necessary safety lessons, safety checks, and refreshers.
- Open climbing and specific merit badge demands will follow the safety requirements.
- ~2:30 a.m. a “Lights Out” may be enforced (to be determined by gym staff and Troop Leaders) until departure time.
The gym has a lounge facility where quick meals can be prepared or meetings held during the event. Pizzas may be ordered and delivered to the gym. Each Troop is responsible for determining the appropriateness of sugar and/or caffeine consumed by scouts and will take full responsibility for the repercussions of over-consumption of such products.
All participants will be allowed to camp in the gym overnight in designated areas and must follow all access rules of the facility. All attendants must bring their own sleeping equipment and toiletries. - During a 2.5 day trip, we can meet and exceed the merit badge requirements in a true wilderness environment. Climb on 50' to 80' rock faces, rappel of of 100' arches, learn how to apply all aspects of the rock climbing merit badge in its true environment!
